University of Hawaii Interim President to Join White House Workshop

civilbeat:

University of Hawaii’s interim president David Lassner is heading to Washington, D.C. this week to join an educational summit at the White House.

The workshop on Jan. 16 aims to create a national action plan to improve college access for disadvantaged kids and will feature President Barack Obama and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

“Hawaiʻi’s goal of having 55 percent of the population holding a two-year or four-year degree by 2025 can’t be achieved without improving access for low-income students and ensuring they succeed,” Lassner said in a press release. “I am delighted and honored to have been invited, and I look forward to both sharing our successes and learning what works in other states so we don’t have to reinvent the wheel.”
