Have a Favorite Book? Then Cook It Up — Literally

The University of Hawaii at Manoa is inviting bookworms and foodies to participate in its fourth annual Hawaii Edible Book Contest.

The contest calls for participants to make a delicious meal à la your favorite book — think Laura Esquivel’s Like Water for Chocolate or Harry Potter’s Book of Monsters.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: “Most Book Like,” “Best Use of Chocolate,” “Best Book in the UH Library” and “People’s Choice.” There’s also the “Audible Arts” category for dishes representing movies or music in the library’s collection.

The contest is part of the International Edible Book Festival. The local event supports the Hawaii Food Bank.

To enter the contest:

  1. Complete the edible book entry form
  2. Bring a canned food contribution for the Hawaiʻi Food Bank (canned goods or $ donation)
  3. Bring your edible book to Hamilton Library between 9:00 -11:30 a.m.  The edible book entry form is available on Hamilton Library’s Facebook page in the Edible Book Album.

Event details:

When: Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 12 p.m. (dishes will be accepted at the library starting at 9 a.m.)

Where: Hamilton Library @ UH Manoa
